Character of the Month of September: Kirito and Asuna

Hello, wonderful people of the universe!  September is coming to an end, which means it’s time to reveal the Character of the Month for September.  Or should I say Characters?  That’s right!  This month it’s going to two characters, again (you may remember I did the same earlier in March)!  However, considering I only reviewed one show for this month, it’s probably no surprise who these two characters are.  So with that much said, let’s talk about this month’s picks, Kirito and Asuna from Sword Art Online.
It’s been awhile since I reviewed Sword Art Online, so to recap, the show is about how players of the MMORPG Sword Art Online become trapped within the game and are forced to fight to survive and beat all the levels of the game to escape.  Kazuto Kirigaya, aka Kirito, is determined to fight.  During this journey through the world of Aincrad, he comes across another player named Asuna.  Both become skilled fighters and become powerful players in the game.  Later on, the two start their own party, fall in love, and even get married in the game.   By season end, the two become very close not only in the Sword Art Online world, but also in the real world.
Obviously, it was the love between the Kirito and Asuna that got both of them the title.  This is probably one of the most beautiful relationships I have ever seen in anime.  I’ve seen couples profess their love for each other, but to go as far as marriage is a pretty huge step.  Then again, Inuyasha: The Final Act lead characters Inuyasha and Kagome tied the knot by series end, and dare I mention other shows that have made similar moves.  Still, this one was pretty special because 1.) it took place during the series before the season ended, and 2.) it helped the characters fall even more in love with each other.  Watching the two of them in love really put a smile on my face.  Not only was this relationship notable, it was also their fighting abilities throughout the series that got my attention.  In combat situations, the two really make a fantastic team.  Although I’ve mostly noticed Kirito fighting more in the series-he is the main character after all-, Asuna does prove from time to time that she can hold her own.  But even then, it just seems better to see the two fight together.  So in short, whether it’s battling the floor boss, spending vacation in a cabin in the woods, or just being together in RL (real life), both Kirito and Asuna are hands down one of the greatest couples in anime, and perfect picks for Character of the Month!  So live, love, and… aw, forget!  You’re Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month of September.  And with that, I’ll be signing off!  Be sure to stay tuned because next week begins my horror themed blogs for October!
