Devilman (1972) vs. Devilman Crybaby: Which Is Better?

Image
Greetings, fabulous peoples!   Welcome to part three of my Devilman- themed Flashback February!   For this week’s post, I’m doing something that I hadn’t done in a pretty long time: a Vs. post!   As many of you may know, with these posts, I take two series, characters, and even manga series and see which one was better.   In this latest Vs. post, I’m taking the two Devilman shows I reviewed for Flashback February and seeing which one was a devil of a show.   And for those who’ve seen Crybaby , I know what you’re thinking, but keep quiet for now.   With that said, let’s duel it out with the original Devilman series and Devilman Crybaby ! First Up: Devilman (1972)   First up on the chopping block is the original 1972 series.   If you read my review on it earlier in the month, the premises of the show is pretty much a kaiju series.   The series ran from 1972 to 1973 for about forty episodes.   And I will admit, I did not watch the entire series due to time restraints,

Greetings, fabulous peoples of the Internet!   After a week of traveling I’m back with part two for my Devilman themed Flashback February!   And I have to admit, I’m pretty excited about this week’s review because I’ve wanted to do it for a while.   It certainly did not disappoint (for the most part), and I can’t wait to talk about it.   So without further adieu, let’s talk about Devilman Crybaby ! Taking a hint from the original manga series, Akira Fuda is a scrawny teen who is often known for bursting into tears at the littlest of things.   One day, his childhood friend, Ryo, comes in out of nowhere and tells Akira that he needs his help with something that admittedly is not all that explained at first.   He then takes Akira to an underground party called a sabbat where partygoers do drugs and alcohol and have sex pretty much all over the place, and oh yeah, a lot of the people there are either half-dressed or completely nude.   As the party starts to become more violent than

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  Sunday is here, and that means the start of this year’s Flashback February!  I feel there’s not much to really talk about at this point.  If you read my announcement Thursday, you know what I’ll be talking about today.  So without any further adieu, let’s talk about the first show for this year’s Flashback February, the original Devilman. At the pilot’s first moments, a collection of devils are tasked with going out and destroying humanity.  One of them is Devilman (yes, ladies and gentlemen, his name really is Devilman).  While hiking in the mountains, Akira Fudo and his father are caught up in an accident, leaving them exposed to the devils.  Devilman wins in a brutal fight with the others and takes over Akira’s body.  The Devilman possessed Akira later returns to live with the Makimura family, where he becomes smitten with the oldest daughter Miki.  He becomes distracted by this attraction, which grabs the attention of his superiors.  Feeling tha

Greetings, fabulous peoples of the Internet!   As promised from last week’s review, today I will finally unveil this year’s Flashback February lineup.   And being that today is in fact the first day of February, it couldn’t be a more perfect time to do so.   In regards to the lineup this year, I did sort of an event within an event.   What do I mean by that?   Well, let’s just say this year’s Flashback February has gone to hell (not really, though!   Don’t panic!) Getting straight to the point, this year I’ll be taking a look at the classic horror action franchise Devilman .   Oddly enough, what brought this on was not the original series, but the Netflix reboot of the series, Devilman Crybaby .   I remember watching the trailer for this and thought it was awesome.   From that day on, I knew I had to do a review for it.   But the more I thought about it, the Devilman franchise has had a long history.   With that in mind, I decided to make an event out of it.   And thus, this yea
