Character of the Month: Izuku Midoriya

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  I know this month’s Character of the Month comes a bit unannounced, but I’ve been busy with grad school assignments and an upcoming family event.  But more on that later.  Anywho, this month’s Character of the Month comes from, well, the only anime that I reviewed this month.  Still, considering all the praise that this show has received, I don’t think it’s any surprise that this character nabbed the title.  So let’s talk about this month’s Character of the Month, Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia.
Izuku has always dreamed of becoming a super hero.  Unfortunately for him, in a world where a large percentage of the human race develops a quirk (the series’ term for super power), Izuku falls in with the humans that never develop one.  Despite this and the bullying he has to deal with from other peers, Izuku refuses to give up.  He even applies to the top super hero school to make a point.  But after he grabs the attention of the world’s greatest superhero All Might, Izuku is given a special quirk by him called “One For All.”  This quirk gives Izuku unimaginable strength, but using it causes so much damage that it can break Izuku’s own bones.  Once Izuku is admitted to the UA, he must learn how to control this power and become the greatest hero ever!
Let’s face it, if you’ve seen My Hero Academia well past the third or fourth episode, you pretty much fall in love with this character.  He certainly gains sympathy for all the crap he has to put up with.  You could say it’s because of that that you root for him the whole time.  Sure, Izuku is not the typical annoying and stubborn anime protagonist; he’s a weak, scrawny and annoying.  But unlike many whiny annoying characters, he’s actually likable.  And it’s easy to see why.  You feel sorry for him and root for him every step of the way.  So yeah, that pretty much sums it up.  So to close with a reference to Journey, don’t stop believing, Izuku Midoriya, cause you’re Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month of June! (Plus I know you’ll master that One For All power at some point!)
Now before I go, I do have one quick announcement.  I will be out of town next weekend on a family vacation, so there will be no post next week.  That’s why I had to cut this month short.  However, I will be back July 3 with new stuff all lined up.  So until then, stay tuned!
