Character of the Month of September: Kirito and Asuna

Image
Hello, wonderful people of the universe!  September is coming to an end, which means it’s time to reveal the Character of the Month for September.  Or should I say Character s ?  That’s right!  This month it’s going to two characters, again (you may remember I did the same earlier in March)!  However, considering I only reviewed one show for this month, it’s probably no surprise who these two characters are.  So with that much said, let’s talk about this month’s picks, Kirito and Asuna from Sword Art Online . It’s been awhile since I reviewed Sword Art Online , so to recap, the show is about how players of the MMORPG Sword Art Online become trapped within the game and are forced to fight to survive and beat all the levels of the game to escape.  Kazuto Kirigaya, aka Kirito, is determined to fight.  During this journey through the world of Aincrad, he comes across another player named Asuna.  Both become skilled fighters and become powerf...

Is Lucy the next Akira?

Greetings, people of Earth!  Welcome back for Part Two of Akira Month!  For this week, I’ll be talking about a Hollywood blockbuster that may be doing a little more than paying tribute to Akira .  Many of you may remember last summer the release of the film Lucy .  The movie came out on DVD earlier this year, and I watched it myself a few months back.  When the credits started rolling, the first thing I said was, “That was great!  Too bad it was already done in 1988 with Akira .”  Now there have been other films over the years like The Matrix trilogy and Chronicle that have been considered rip-offs of Akira .  Though I’m not saying that Lucy is a rip-off of Akira , I do think that Lucy’s plot was just a little too similar.  Bottom line, this post will be talking about some of the similarities between the two films, and then you, the reader, make the call on whether or not it’s a rip-off.  So, let’s get going! Before I Start… ...

Akira the Movie vs. Akira the Manga: Which is Better?

Image
Greetings, everyone!  Welcome to Part 1 of Akira Month!  To kick this two part, all about Akira, discussion post event off, I’ll be taking the manga that inspired the groundbreaking film, and the groundbreaking film that later inspired the world and seeing which one really makes fans explode-OK, that came out a little weird.  So now, without further delay, let’s get started on my discussion post battle of Akira  the Manga versus Akira the Movie! First Up: Akira the Movie So let’s begin with the Akira that most people are familiar with, the 1988 film. In a nutshell, Akira the film is about a teenage biker gang member named Tetsuo who suddenly develops psychic powers that eventually cause him to lose his mind.  This decent into  madness also sparks a rivalry between him and his best friend Kaneda, who has unwillingly become involved with a terrorist group trying to expose a secret government organization that studies individuals with psych...

Gaming World Meets the Real World II: Sword Art Online

Image
Hello, world!  September is here, and so is a new review for today!  This week, I’ll be reviewing a show that I think I should have reviewed a long time ago.  This show has made its mark in America, earning it a spot on Toonami among other things, and I can’t wait to take it on.  So without any further delay, let’s get started on this week’s review on Sword Art Online ! Sword Art Online takes place in a futuristic Japan where gamers eagerly await the release of the new MMORPG Sword Art Online, also known as SAO.  Making the game even more attractive is the use of Nerve Gear, a gaming device that allows players to put themselves in the game’s world.  However, this gamer’s dream turns into a nightmare when the game’s creator traps all the players in the game, saying they must complete all one-hundred levels of the game to escape.  However, if players die in game, they die in real life as well.  And taking the Nerve Gear off will also cause equal...
