Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month of April: Dio Brando

Image
Howdy, howdy!  April has come to a close, finals have come into full swing, and it’s time to reveal this month’s Character of the Month.  This month’s character is probably the first villain that I’ve had in a while.  In fact, he’s probably one of my favorites now.  So without further adieu, let’s talk about April’s Character of the Month: Dio Brando from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure . Dio comes into play at the beginning of the JoJo saga in the Phantom Blood arc.  After being taken in by the Joestar family following the death of his alcoholic criminal father, Dio makes it his mission to make Johnathan Joestar’s life hell-and it actually happens within the first episode.  But after seven years, the two have somehow become friends (that’s still a mystery to me).  However, when Jojo discovers that Dio has been poisoning his father, Dio sets out to make sure Jojo is the only one who knows. Using a mysterious mask that Jojo had been studying for some time, Dio accidentally discovers that we

Autism Story #3: Acceptance Can Come from Anywhere

Greetings, one and all!  Welcome to my third and final Autism Story in celebration of Autism Awareness Month!  Getting right to the point, a major theme that I’ve used in the last two stories that I’ve done is acceptance.  The first story talked about acceptance of myself as someone with autism, and the second talked about the acceptance of autism in the media.  This week’s story talks about other’s acceptance of me being autistic.  And of all the moments in my life, none of those were as powerful as this week’s story. As I said in my first story, there are times where you feel like a disability hands people a pass to treat you like you have a disability.  I also said that people who are disabled want to be treated like that disability isn’t there- but of course, this is a matter of opinion.  So in laments terms, it’s hard to tell anyone about your disability and expect them to treat you with some dignity.  And sure, that may sound like no one I’ve ever told about having Asperger’s

Greetings, fabulous people of the Internet!  This week I've decided to do another video reaction, but with a little twist.  Today, I'll be watching for the first time and reacting to Watchmojo.com's picks on some of the best dragons in anime.  While you admire some of the awesome dragons, watch me diss one dragon's name, another's appearances, and brag about me prediction!  Stay tuned next weekend for my final Autism Story and my unveiling of Character of the Month! -Hanime on Anime

Autism Story 2: My Reaction to the New Neighbor on Sesame Street

Image
Greetings, one and all!  I’m back today for my second Autism Story.  Before I begin, I do hope that everyone reading this has had a wonderful Easter (I know I did)!  This week’s story will be short, and that’s not compared to my last Story.  But this week’s story is actually about a non-anime show that has gotten some attention, and coincidentally making headlines right around Autism Awareness Month.                 As many of you may know, a while back Sesame Street welcomed a new neighbor.  And this neighbor, named Julia, has garnered a good bit of attention when word got out of her arrival.  Why?  Because she’s the first autistic muppet.  And sure, this is a good reason why Julia is getting so much attention.  It’s even no surprise that her debut came at the start of Autism Awareness Month.  But what exactly do I think of Julia?                 I got word about Julia through an article.  Back then, reading about her and her introductory sketch brought tears to my eyes.  Watch

A Special Easter Note from Hanime on Anime!

Image
Good morning, fabulous people of the Internet!  Hanime on Anime here.  First, off I apologize for yesterday.  I didn't have time to post this week's Autism Story yesterday, so I've postponed it for next week.  And there still won't be an official post for today either.  However, in light of the Easter holiday, I did want to make a special post.  The video I have posted bellow is an anime version (dubbed) of the Passion of Christ called "My Last Days."  If you're an otaku and a Christian, I highly recommend it! So with that I say Happy Easter, enjoy the video, and stay tuned next week for my next Autism Story and a very cool post that I have planned for Sunday! -Hanime on Anime

This is (Not) a First Impression Review: Neon Genesis Evangelion

Image
Howdy, howdy folks!  Sunday is here and that means a fresh new review!  Hopefully, for those of you who read yesterday’s emotional post, it’ll be something positive to read.  And while this week’s show is not so new, it is nonetheless a classic.  Although, I feel like this review won’t be doing it much justice (I’ll explain later).  Anyways, let’s get started on this week’s long-awaited review on Neon Genesis Evangelion (also simply known as Evangelion ) . In 2000, a cataclysmic event known as Second Impact destroyed Earth’s North Pole, disrupted Earth’s axis, and wiped out a huge chunk of the human population.  Fifteen years later, giant creatures called Angels now attack the Earth and threaten humanity.  The only weapon able to combat these monsters are the Evangelion Units, or Evas, giant robots that are way more than they seem (and that fact is made apparent in the second episode).  The main character, Shinji Ikari, comes to Tokyo 3 as requested by his estranged father, who

Hanime on Anime's Autism Story #1: “Stand Up, Be Strong!”

Greetings one and all!  Today begins my first Autism Story.  If you’re new around here or just missed my kick off to my Autism Awareness Event, I basically talk about something that happened in my life and how autism played a part in it.  But before I get into any further detail on this week’s story, I do want to note that I made a mistake with last week’s introductory post.  I thought that Autism Awareness Day was on April 1 st , it’s actually the 2 nd .  Hanime on Anime tradition states that the event starts the first of April, so therein lies the confusion on my part.  This won’t change how the event is run in any way; I just wanted to note that I made a mistake.  Anyways, back to this week’s story.  I decided to tell a story that makes a very personal and revealing note, one that I typically don’t do on my blog.  Getting straight to the point, it all started back in December… Many of you who read my blog regularly will remember that I had announced in December of 2016 I was goin

Hanime’s Bizarre Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (Phantom Blood Arc)

Image
Hello, fellow readers!  My ever popular Autism Awareness Month event may have started yesterday, but that won’t stop me from dishing out reviews-although I think I made that clear already.  Anywho, this week’s review is on a show that I have been dying to see for a while.  And now that I bought the English dub on DVD, I now get to review at least one part of it (more on that in a minute)!  So without further delay, let’s talk a little about this week’s review on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure . Now to clarify, I was only able to get as far as the end of the Phantom Blood arc.  And given that this is supposed to be an anthology series, it would seem unfair to look over the series as a whole.  So this review will only cover Phantom Blood.  This brief arc introduces us to the Joestar family, a well-to-do family in Victorian England, and the young protagonist Jonathan Joestar, more commonly refered to as Jojo.  Jojo’s life gets turned upside down when a boy named Dio Brando comes to live w

Autism Awareness 2017 Begins on Hanime on Anime!

Greetings, fellow readers!  April has begun and that means it’s time to start my ever popular Autism Awareness Month Event, which is very appropriate considering today is Autism Awareness Day.  For those of you who don’t know, April is Autism Awareness Month.  And for the past two years, every April I’ve made a point to celebrate it.  Why? Well, believe it or not, I actually have Asperger’s Syndrome, a high functioning form of autism.  So it’s definitely a big deal for me.  Anyways, one issue that I’ve had for this year was figuring out what to do for the event.  I’ve already talked about autism, what it is, and how it has affected my life.  That was done both in blog posts and videos.  But this year, I decided to not focus so much on the facts of autism and what they mean to me, but actually give you guys a look at what it’s like to live with autism-or Asperger’s Syndrome in my case. So every Saturday, starting next week, I’ll tell a different story in where being autistic played a
