Character of the Month of March: the Matsuno Brothers

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   It’s the end of the month, and that means it’s time for Character of the Month!   And honestly, I felt a little torn with this one...ok, maybe I wasn’t torn, I just felt like there were other characters I could have picked.   What do I mean?   Well, let’s find out by talking about this month’s Character of the Month of March, the Matsuno brothers from Mr. Osomatsu ! There really isn’t much to talk about with this show, but it wouldn’t hurt to give a quick synopsis given my review on Mr. Osomatsu was two weeks ago.   The series follows the Matsuno brothers- Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Todomatsu- and there crazy antics...and that’s about all you need to know.   Like I said, quick synopsis. I’m pretty sure that some of you might have thought that either Hiro or Zero Two from DARLING in the FRANXX would have won.   But like I said in my review last week, the show felt really tedious in terms of story and characte

Complete List of Starred Reviews

Hi everybody!  I know that this post wasn't announced last week, this was long overdue.  If you remember from my New Year's post, I started a new Hanime on Anime tradition by having starred reviews.  While you could probably go back to this post and read more about it, basically these were reviews on shows that I thought could be discussed in Talkative Thursday posts.  Well, I'm happy to report that I finally have added on to that list complete with links to the blog posts.  Feel free to take a look at each of the reviews on the list below!  And as always, be sure to stay tuned for this Sunday when I reveal this month's Character of the Month! -Hanime on Anime     Starred Reviews All Years 2014 ·          The Wind Rises (May 2011) ·          Tokyo Ghoul (July 2014) ·          Inuyasha (September 2014) ·          Cowboy Bebop (September 2014) ·          Howl’s Moving Castle (September 2014) ·          Hellsing Ultmate (Sept

This DARLING is my TRIGGER: DARLING in the FRANXX

Greetings, ladies and gents!   It’s Sunday, and that means it’s time once again for another review.   And believe it or not, I was actually looking forward to this week’s review...even more than Devilman Crybaby .   Imagine if Kill la Kill and Evangelion had a baby; this show would be that baby.   That being said, I can’t wait any longer, so let’s talk about this week’s review on DARLING in the FRANXX . In a distant future, humanity is pushed to the brink by monsters known as klaxosaurs and forced to live in moving cities called Plantations.   Protecting these Plantations are Parasites, teens tasked with piloting giant robots called Franxx.   Hiro, once trained to be one of these pilots, finds himself unable to pilot a Franxx after a series of failed tests, leading him to fall into a depressive state.   That is until he meets a mysterious girl named Zero Two.   After her Parasite partner dies, she takes Hiro on as her partner and begins calling him her “darling.”   Becoming the o

The South Park of Anime: Mr. Osomatsu

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   Welcome back to another good ol’ review from yours truly!   This week, I decided to look at a show that I admittedly saw some time ago and just recently rediscovered.   Well, ok, maybe not recently, but I still got a chance to continue with it.   So let’s stop beating around the bush and get into this week’s review on Mr. Osomatsu ! For the most part, this series is episodic, so there’s not a real continuing story.   The show follows the sextuplet Matsuno  brothers and their crazy adventures, with each episode being a fifteen minute, two-part short detailing said crazy adventures.   And…that’s it.   Yeah, like I said, this series is about as episodic as it gets. Overall, this show was pretty fun and zany.   But granted, it’s not for everybody.   And so I give Mr. Osomatsu a seven out of ten.   As much as I would like to say this show is not as adult as it portrays itself to be, I would totally be lying; when in the second episode one of the brot

Is Devilman Crybaby Anime of the Year?

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   It’s Sunday and I’m back in action with a special post that will hopefully wrap up Flahsback February.   Cause let’s face it, my Vs. post and Character of the Month didn’t do that.   Getting straight to the point, is Devilman Crybaby really the anime of the year? Devilman Crybaby was nothing short of a fantastic show with a lot of effort and depth put into it.   I know that watching it for Flashback February, I personally enjoyed it… a lot.   But I’m not the only one who feels the same way because there are so many otakus and anime fans alike who have been praising this show since its release earlier in the year.   Everything from the story, to animation, even to the music, people have been going nuts for it, so much so that some have been calling it “anime of the year.”   Hearing something like this makes me both hopeful for what other shows this year will look like, but it’s also kind of off putting-first and foremost, IT’S MARCH 2018!!!   Wh

Character of Flashback February: Akira Fudo (Devilman Crybaby version)

Alright, ladies and gentlemen.   I’m well aware Flashback February’s Character of the Month choice knowing that all month I talked about nothing but the Devilman franchise.   It probably comes as no surprise that one of the characters from said franchise would get the title.   But while that much is true, need I remind you that there were two shows from the franchise that I had to choose from.   And it turns out the lead from the more modern of the two series was my pic.   That being said, let’s talk about Flashback February’s Character of the Month, Akira Fudo from Devilman Crybaby ! I’ve talked about the plot from Crybaby several times already, so I’m putting that baby to bed and just skipping ahead to why I picked Akira from Crybaby .   In the same way that I thought the overall Devilman story as portrayed in the manga was better represented in Devilman Crybaby , Akira was portrayed much better in this adaptation as well.   He’s depicted as great character with a very relatab
