Character of the Month of January: Elias Ainsworth

Image
Greetings, fabulous peoples!  January is coming to a close, and that means it’s time to reveal this month’s -and 2018’s first- Character of the Month!  This month’s pick was, quite frankly, pretty much decided after reviewing the show he came from.  He kind of stole my heart from episode one.  Well I can’t ramble on about this guy forever, so let’s dive right in and talk about this month’s Character of the Month of January: Elias Ainsworth from The Ancient Magus Bride ! Where do I begin with this guy?  Well for one, he looks so cool!  This is one of the coolest character designs I have ever seen!  It can be terrifying at times, but it’s overall a very imaginative look.  In a way, it kind of adds to the magical feel to this show.  Elias also has a very unique personality to him, too.  I like the fact that he’s so socially awkward and even blunt to other people, especially non-magical beings.  Sometimes it almost makes me think of Beauty and the Beast .  Sure, the beast was very shor

My Top 5 Problems with Akira (the movie)

Greetings ladies and gentlemen of the Internet!  Welcome to another Talkative Thursday!  If you read my review from Sunday, you could probably tell I wasn't all that excited about Re:Zero .  And I'll kind of admit, this week's topic might not be all that chipper either...especially if you're a fan of Akira .  Granted, if you read the title you'd know that by now.  Still, I'm actually very excited to do this post.  And it's not just because it's something I've wanted to talk about.  What actually brought this up was a bit of inspiration from one of my favorite YouTubers. It may or may not have been mentioned in the past, but I love The Nostalgia Critic.  I was a big fan of his videos when I was younger, and have fallen in love themall over again having recently re-discovered them.  Among one of his newer videos to come out in the past few years was a countdown of the top eleven dumbest moments from the Lord of the Rings film trilogy.  I liked the

Let’s Re:Think Things Here: Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  It’s Sunday again and that means it’s time for another review!  Granted, I’m probably not all that enthused about this week’s pick.  I’ll admit I didn’t particularly like this week’s show even though it’s been on my review radar for quite some time now.  There are some emotional ties to a certain someone who won’t be mentioned any further in this post, but that’s not why I’m being so negative about it (honest!).  Curious as to what it is?  Well then, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s review on Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World, more commonly referred to as just Re:ZERO .   Subaru Natsuki is suddenly transported from his world (our world) to a strange fantasy world without any explanation of how or why it happened.   In the first couple of moments in this new world, he meets a half-elf girl named Emelia (although she originally introduces herself as Satella).   But soon, Subaru quickly makes an unusual discovery.   After he’s mysteriously

This is (Not) A Re-Review: Evangelion

Greetings, fabulous ladies and gents of the Internet!    And if you haven’t read the title already, Neon Genesis Evangelion has been a running theme this week.  After watching the entire series recently, I think it’s time that it got a second chance at looking over again.  Back in April my review on it, I stated it was a classic that deserved another shot.  Even with what I saw at that time, I was still pretty impressed.  Heck, it’s one of my starred reviews for a reason!  And so, without further adieu, let’s (not) get started on this week’s re-review of Neon Genesis Evangelion ! Ok, so for a first in Hanime on Anime, I’m actually going to skip the synopsis of the series.  For one, if you read my Talkative Thursday post, you probably got the gist of the series.  Plus if you’ve seen it already, you know what happens.  And second, I thought my original synopsis summarizes the series pretty well (plus that saves time having to rewrite it).  However, I will say that beyond what I sa

Should We Hate Shinji Ikari?

Greetings, ladies and gents!  Welcome to my first official Talkative Thursday post of 2018!  I've been wanting to do this first post's topic for a while, so I'm just going to jump right in.  If you read my Character of the Year announcement, you probably know that Neon Genesis Evangelion was one of my first Starred Reviews of 2017-then again, if you knew this, then I don't see why I needed to repeat this information.  Anyway, since my review on it last year, I really got invested in it.  And I don't mean just watching the series all the way through.  I started watching videos discussing some of the deeper elements, and really, just any entertaining videos on it.  It's not hard to see why this little obsession got started; it's a great show that's not afraid to go to some dark places but also makes for some great mecha entertainment.  But in all of the videos and countdowns and what-not I found, one trend seemed to come up:  people hate Shinji Ikari

A Magical Start to the New Year!: The Ancient Magus’ Bride

Greetings, fabulous peoples of the Internet!  Welcome to my first review of 2018!  After my month long hiatus, there were a couple of shows that I had my eye on for reviewing.  This first pick was not only one of those shows, not only was it one of the newest shows of the Fall 2017 season, but it’s also been claimed to be one of the best shows of the year.  Does it live up to the hype?  Well, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s review on The Ancient Magus’ Bride ! Chise Hatori is sold into slavery in a world where magic exists with a modern world.  In the pilot episode’s opening moments, she’s bought by a mysterious and almost terrifying mage named Elias Ainsworth.  Chise is then immediately made his apprentice, and, by episode one’s end, his fiancé (no lie, that really happens).   The series from that point on follows Chise and Elias as they go on various missions and adventures using magic to help them along the way.  We also learn about Chise’s origins as a Sleigh Beggy,

Character of 2017 Has Been Chosen!

Greetings fabulous people of the Internet!  2018 is finally here, and that means it’s time to unveil 2017’s Character of the Year!  I’ll admit, this year’s pick was a close call.  Then again, last year’s pick was also tough.  But this year had some great characters from some pretty great shows, making the lineup particularly rough.  While this year started a first in Hanime on Anime history with the addition of the Dynamic Duo and Starred Reviews, I eventually came to a decision.  And with that being said, ladies and gentlemen, my Character s of 2017 as well as my Dynamic Duo of 2017 are… Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover from Attack on Titan ! Ok, while there were a lot of great characters to choose from, I had to give it to these two.  Coming from one of the most talked about shows of 2017, Reiner and Bertholdt were some of the most impactful characters of the series.  Having mostly played background characters in season one of Attack on Titan -particularly Bertholdt-, it
