Character of the Month of May: Haku

Image
Greetings, fabulous peoples!  I owe a huge apology for this late post.  I dropped the ball yesterday and completely forgot to post yesterday.  But all things considered, I have a fresh new post ready.  Speaking of, Miyazaki May 2017 has come to a close, and that means it’s time to unveil this month’s Character of the Month!  This month’s pick was hard to find, not necessarily because there were so many good characters.  To tell the truth, there really weren’t a whole lot of characters that really stood out (well, besides one).  Anywho, let’s get to this year’s Miyazaki May’s Character of the Month, Haku from Spirited Away ! In Spirited Away, Haku serves as the henchman for the sorceress Yabaaba.  Throughout most of the film though, Haku helps protagonist Chihiro navigate her way through the spirit world and Yabaaba’s bathhouse.  Chihiro later repays this kindness after Haku is attacked by Yabaaba’s twin sister Zeniba by returning a seal he had stolen.  This allows Haku to break free

The Kid Inside: Only Yesterday

Greetings, one and all!  It’s time once again for another review from yours truly.  And of course, with it being Miyazaki May, I’ve got another Ghibli classic on the chopping block.  Well, okay, maybe it’s not a classic that people can name right off the bat, but it’s still pretty good.  So enough of the chit-chat and let’s get on with this week’s review of Only Yesterday. Only Yesterday follows twenty-seven year old Taeko.  As she travels to the countryside of Yamagata to harvest safflower, she thinks back to when she was in the fifth grade.  That’s pretty much the gist of the film, well except the ending.  When her vacation comes to a close, the relatives she’s been staying with offer her to stay and even marry the organic farmer she’s been making friends with named Toshio.  This upsets her and she storms off, only to be brought back by Toshio.  The following morning, she leaves for home.  But as the credits roll and her fifth grader self overcomes her, she comes back to Yamagata

Spirit it Away!: Spirited Away

Greetings, fellow children of the Internet!  Welcome to part one of Miyazaki May 2017!  Starting off this year’s festivities will be a review on one of the most renowned Studio Ghibli films as well as one of the most reputable anime films of all time.  So I guess I’ll just cut to the chase then.  Sit back! Relax! And enjoy this week’s review on the one and only Spirited Away . The film opens on Chihiro and her family on the road to their new home.  After taking something of a detour, Chihiro and her family find themselves at an abandoned building.  They soon find a small deserted town beyond it.  However, Chihiro quickly learns that this deserted looking town is actually a mystical world of spirits, and that her parents have been turned into pigs for eating the village food.  Chihiro later runs into a boy named Haku, who tells her that humans are not allowed in this strange world and get turned into animals by the sorceress Yababa, who also runs the local bathhouse.  In order to
