The New Hanime on Anime is Here!

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  The end of 2017 is here, and with that end comes a new beginning in a brand new year.  And with the new year, Hanime on Anime has returned with some new changes.  As stated in my last post, I took a month long hiatus to not only get a little break, but to also make some changes to Hanime on Anime.  And for this special post, I’m going to talk about all those new changes! First, if you haven’t already noticed, I’ve made some changes to the site’s overall design.  Being up and running for three years, it was time the site itself got a facelift.  But while everything looks all nice and new, I had some issues in fixing the “About Hanime on Anime” page.  So some portions of the site are still a work in progress.    Second, after giving it some thought and consideration, I’ve decided to permanently add a new segment to my monthly line up.  Believe it or not, my top three most popular posts on Hanime on Anime are discussion posts.  Based on that, I dec

Last Post of 2017?!

Greetings, fabulous peoples of the Internet!  Well, I think you guys can guess what this is about.  But if you haven’t read the title already, then I’ll enlighten you: yes, this may very well be the last post of 2017.  While going on a month long hiatus sounds bad, it’s actually for some pretty good reasons.  I’ve gone on with friends and family that 2017 was a rough year for me emotionally, mostly because of my broken engagement earlier this year.  Even so, 2017 was actually a great year in other regards like my academics and career as a librarian.  Having recently gotten a promotion and nearing the end of my graduate studies, things have gotten a little hectic and busy, especially in the past several months with school.  So part of this little hiatus is in fact a little break to catch my breath.  But the biggest reason for this hiatus is to work on Hanime on Anime itself. First, I’ve given a lot of thought into expanding my blog into other areas and forms of content for a long time

Character of the Month of Novembflix: Meliodas

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  Welcome back to the final portion of Novembflix, and the end of the month of November.  My first attempt at this new event was interesting in the sense that the shows were, well, interesting-and maybe not in the best of ways.  Still, of all the shows I reviewed, there was one character from this event that I absolutely adored; so this month’s pick was pretty easy.  So, let’s not stall anymore and talk about this month’s character of the month: Meliodas from The Seven Deadly Sins. In the fantasy world of Britannia, Meliodas serves as the leader of a group of elite Holy Knights turned outlaws called the Seven Deadly Sins.  Ten years after the group is accused of treason and disbanded, Princess Elizabeth of the Liones family finds Meliodas as the owner of a traveling bar.  Elizabeth convinces him to find the other members of the Sins and stop the Order of the Holy Knights from starting an all out war. Good Lord, Meliodas was one of the funniest pr

To Infinity and Beyond Confusing: Knights of Sidonia

Greetings, fabulous peoples of the Internet!  I’m back this week with the final part of Novembflix!  This week’s review was…interesting.  In fact, I think I’m still scratching my head at what I watched.  Granted, you guys know what this week’s show is, so there really isn’t any reason to beat around the bush.  So let’s get into this week’s review on Knights of Sidonia ! In a far distant future, the remnants of humanity live on a gigantic shuttle in the middle of space called Sidonia .  The series opens up with the apprehension of boy named Nagate Tanikaze after he is caught trying to steal rice.  As it turns out, Nagate had been living a under a rock for quite sometime; humanity has not only thrived but evolved, now having the capability to go one week without eating.  However, the residents of Sidonia suddenly come under threat when a massive space-dwelling creature called the Gauna is awakened and attacks.  With the Sidonia now in danger, Guardian pilots (including newly-induct

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  Welcome back to part two of Novembflix!  This week I took a break from witches, but still decided to keep the fantasy theme going with this week’s show.  I had already heard quite a lot about this show before watching it, so had pretty high hopes for it.  And while I wasn’t able to get too far into season one, what I was able to watch was…well…let’s just start the review and you’ll see what I mean.  Speaking of, let’s talk about The Seven Deadly Sins . In the world of Britannia, a fantasy world where humans and creatures coexist, a sanction of knights known as the Seven Deadly Sins are wanted for plotting against the Liones Kingdom.  Ten years after their disbandment, one Princess Elizabeth is in search of them to stop the Holy Knights from starting an all-out war.  But in an unexpected stop at a bar, she finds the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins Meliodas, the sin of wrath.  After escaping a scuffle with some knights, Elizabeth, Meliodas, and Melio

Something Cute this Way Comes: Little Witch Academia

Greetings, fabulous peoples!   November is here and that means its time for the first review of Novembflix!  If you missed my post last week, Novembflix is a new event that I’m doing for the month of November where I review shows exclusively found on Netflix.  And this week’s show, I’ll admit, was one that I should have reviewed last month-even though it’s not a horror anime.  And if you picked up on the same title I used for my review on 18if , then you know this week’s review is on one witchy show in particular.  So, since I’ve given that much away, let’s jump right into this week’s review on Little Witch Academia . Ever since she was a little girl, Atsuko Kagari, mostly known as Akko, has always wanted to become a witch like her idol Shiny Chariot.  She goes on to attend Luna Nova Academy, a school for witches, to learn all about magic so she can become just like Charitot.  However, she finds that learning magic is a lot more difficult than she bargained for.  But while learni

Character of the Month of October…or not?

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen of the Internet!  I’m back from my two week hiatus, and I certainly needed it.  The past two weeks have been busy, but it’s nice to be able to sit down and post once again.  Though this week I feel like I’m dropping the ball a little bit.  And that’s been mostly with Character of the Month.  What do I mean by this?  Put bluntly, this Month’s Character of the Month is Trevor Belmont from Castlevania . Yeah, I know, Trevor is not an anime character, but I honestly thought that 18if was a pretty weak show for this month and could have been outdone with a number of other shows.  But I couldn’t help it; Trevor is just so awesome!  He’s lovable and awesome as a drunken traveler and even more so sober.  There’s just something about his wise-cracking attitude that just draws you in.  And when he starts to get more serious as the series progresses, he just becomes all the more lovable.  Trevor was just such a great character and a perfect example of what a

Double, double, toil and bubble ladies and gentlemen!  Cause this week, I’ve got a new anime review on an actual anime.  This week I decided to look at a fairly new show that had been on my watchlist for a while.  Granted, of the newer shows that came out earlier this year, there were others that would have been more appropriate to review.  But this time I wanted to review a show that was horror or supernatural that didn’t have vampires.  So sit back and relax, and hope you enjoy witches as I do this week’s review on 18if . Haruto Tsukishiro is a teenage boy trapped in a world of dreams.  While in this world, he later meets a professor named Katsumi Kanzaki, who has been researching the dream world for quite some time.  The two combat witches-girls suffering from Sleeping Beauty syndrome in the real- in hopes of waking them up and gaining further information about the dream world.  The pair also learns more about a mysterious girl in this world named Lilly. When I first sa

It’s Not an Anime, but I’m Reviewing It Anyway: Castlevania

Greetings, peoples!  October is here and that means it’s time for a horror-themed review!  But before I get into that, this review will be a little different.  Why?  Well…put bluntly…this isn’t an anime show.  Yeah, that was a mistake on my part, but I’m still going for it anyways.  There was so much hype for this show in the past several weeks it hit Netflix, and it’s been on my watchlist for some time.  Regardless, this was worth a good review.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s review on my first non-anime horror review on Castlevania . Based on the Japanese video game (maybe some more justification), this short four episode series is set in the kingdom of Wallachia during the late fifteenth century.  After his wife is falsely accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake, the infamous Dracula himself unleashed an army of demons to destroy the major cities of Wallachia and eventually the world.  This came after giving the Wallachians a year to realize their mistake.  M

Character of the Month: Naraku

Hello, fabulous peoples!  Welcome to my final installment of my month of countdowns, although it’s not a countdown.  Regardless, Character of the Month is a Hanime on Anime tradition, and as such, I can’t really break that.  And this month’s character was worth the title!  In fact, this one has deserved that title for a while, and not just because he’s one of my favorite characters.  So, enough of me talking and let’s talk about this month’s Character of the Month: Naraku (no need to say the show he’s from.  Y’all know.) Naraku is the main antagonist of both Inuyasha series.  Originally the severely injured bandit Onigumo who sold his soul to a hoard of demons, Naraku’s main objective is to collect the shards of the Sacred Jewel, and is willing to sacrifice anyone or anything to do just that.  Notoriously known for never being directly involved in his own schemes, Inuyasha and the gang often find themselves in horrible, even soul-crushing situations thanks to him.  Yeah, Naraku nee

My Favorites in Anime: Top 10 Anime Transformations

Image
Greetings, fabulous peoples!  Welcome back to my final countdown of September as I look at some of my favorite transformations in anime.  They’re a staple in the world of anime.  Some are pretty stereotypical while others are awesome, or just plain weird.  Transformations in anime are unique to say the very least.  And of all the transformations, I picked ten of my personal favorite transformations. That’s right people!  Balls to the wall!  Last countdown of the month and I’m going all out with a top ten.   In fact this was the first countdown I had written down on paper.  One quick note, I based these choices on the appearance and relevancy to their respective show’s overall plot .  Oh yeah, there will be spoilers too.  And so, without further adieu, let’s take a look at my top ten anime transformations! #10: “I am a Ghoul” ( Tokyo Ghoul ) Starting off my list is one particular transformation that many of you could say is cheating.  And you’re probably right.  But if you’ve e

My Favorites in Anime: Top 5 Best English Dub Performances

Image
Greetings, one and all!  Welcome to part two of my month of countdowns.  As I said last week, I’ll be continuing with my top five favorite performances.  Now I know what you’re thinking, why even discuss this?  Subbed and dubbed anime have often sparked debate amongst otakus on which is better.  Of course, if anyone has read my blogs regularly, I’ve made it pretty clear that I honestly don’t care.  But there are some awesome dubs out there.  And these dubs are especially graced with some great voice actors.  In fact, it’s because of a good dubbed performances that make some select anime characters of my favorites. And that’s what this countdown is looking at: those dubbed performances.  So, without further adieu, let’s take a look my top five favorite English dub performances. #5: Paul Dobson as Naraku ( Inuyasha )   Starting off my list is one of my all time favorite characters from a not-so talked about show.  Having watched Inuyasha a dozen times, I can say that it’s not

My Favorites in Anime: My First Top 5!

Greetings, one and all!  Welcome to my first post of September!  Why am I making such a big deal about it?  If you’re new around here, I do annual event for the month of September to celebrate my birthday.  For this year, I’ve decided to do a month of posts dedicated to something that I’ve wanting to do on Hanime on Anime for the longest time now: countdowns!  And in the first of these countdowns you’ll be reading this month, I decided to start off with something simple.  Last year, I dedicated the month of September to my favorite characters in anime.  Based on that list, I decided to rank my top five absolute favorites of all time.  And believe me when I say that was no easy feat.  I also want to note that while I could have done a top ten list, I thought doing a top five would be an easier start-writing wise anyway.  And so, without further adieu, let’s take a look at my top five favorite anime characters of all time! #5: Cynthia ( Pokémon ) Starting off this list is one
