Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month of December: Yuichiro Hyakuya

Image
Season’s greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  December is coming to an end-at least for the blog anyways-and that means it’s time to reveal the Character of the Month of December, which will also be the final Character of the Month of the year.  This month’s character was a little difficult to decide.  I had only two shows and two great characters to go on.  But as difficult as it was, I finally picked one.  So let’s talk a little about this month’s and this year’s final Character of the Month: Yuichiro Hyakuya from Seraph of the End . Since I just reviewed Seraph of the End last week, I’ll be brief on the synopsis of the show.  After a mysterious virus nearly wipes out humanity, Yuichiro Hyakuya-also simply known as Yu- and his friends live under the control of vampires.  Yu manages to escape, but at the cost of losing his friends to the vampires.  After this tragedy, Yu vows to kill all of the vampires to avenge his friends.  Several years later, Yu joins the Japanese Imperial Demon

Who Says Vampires Can’t Take Over the Holidays?: Seraph of the End

Image
Greetings, peoples!  I’m back this week for the last review of the month and of 2015!  Wrapping things up this week is a 2015 show that would seem to be more fitting for Halloween than Christmas.  But still, as the title suggests, who says vampires can’t take over the holidays-at least for a week anyways?  So that much said, let’s get on with this week’s review on the sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, vampire-rampant Seraph of the End . After a mysterious pandemic kills every human being above the age of fourteen, vampires and other strange creatures now control the earth and humanity is at the end of its rope.  Humans are now treated like animals and harvested for blood by the vampires.  Young Yuichiro and his friend Mikaela don’t plan to put up with the situation for much longer and plot an escape.  However, the escape ends tragically.  Although Yuichiro manages to escape the vampires’ entrapment, his freedom costs him the lives of his friends.  Four years later, Yuichiro has sworn rev

An Arabian Night with this Japanese Show: The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Season’s greetings, ladies and gents!  December is here and that not only means Christmas is almost here, but also a new month of anime reviews!  But, this month’s reviews will be the last reviews of 2015.  So much like last year, December will be a relatively short month.  There is some other important information that I do need to share, but I’ll save that for the end-it’s not a proposal, rest assured.  This week’s review is on, once again, a new 2015 show.  And although I’ve barely dove in to this show, I’d still like to review it while my feet are still wet.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s review on The Heroic Legend of Arslan . In The Heroic Legend of Arslan , also known as Arslan Senki, the kingdom of Pars has reigned supreme for some time with power, slaves, and an invincible army.  Arslan, the crown prince of Pars, is the focus of the story.  After witnessing the horrendous defeat of Pars’s army and fall of his father, King Andragoras III, Arslan is rescued from

Character of the Month of November: Momonga/Ainz Ooal Gown

Image
Greetings, everyone!  I hope you all have had a great Thanksgiving and stocked up on turkey and other goodies.  But now I’m back and ready to unveil November’s Character of the Month.  In all honesty, this one really wasn’t hard to decide.  Being one of the most powerful and epic characters I’ve seen, I don’t think it was any surprise who took the title.  So enough beating around the bush and let’s get to this month’s Character of the Month, Momonga/Ains Ooal Gown from Overlord . After the sever to a long-running MMORPG shuts down, Momonga finds himself trapped within the world of Yggdrasil.  Wanting to know more about this strange world, he ventures out on a mission to gather as much information as he can, and later changes his name to Ainz Ooal Gown.  Although Ainz makes new friends and allies along the way, something sinister is happening.  But it shouldn’t be too big of a problem for Ainz to handle. Ainz is probably one of the most interesting anime characters I’ve seen, and t

Attack on Parody!: Attack on Titan Junior High

Hello peoples!  Welcome back for another brand new review on a brand new show to hit the 2015 lineup!  The show I’ll be reviewing today is actually pretty fresh off the fall season line up.  Though I can’t say whether or not it’s the most talked about show of the season,  it may ring a bell for some fans of one show in particular.  Why bring up fans?  Well, many of you may remember the landslide phenomenon-not so much for this reviewer- Attack on Titan .  In one of the first anime parodies I’ve seen as an otaku, this fall lineup brought a hilarious spoof on the show’s entire concept.  So without any further delay, let’s get the scoop on one of the fall season’s funniest comedy animes, Attack on Titan: Junior High . Attack on Titan: Junior High still keeps the same characters that fans of the original Attack on Titan know and love.  But rather than living within the dystopian world of Wall Maria, Eren, Mikasa, and company all live in what looks like a modern day Japan.  Episode

Toonami’s Latest Dub all the Raid?: Akame ga Kill

Image
Greetings, fellow earthlings!  Welcome back for another review on one of the new shows to hit the summer 2015 block.  This show, however, is a little different.  This week’s review will be on an English dub show that has been on the Toonami block for some time now.  Having watched the show for as long as it has aired on Toonami, it definitely sparked my interest for certain reasons-more to that later-, and now I’ve got the chance to review it.  So enough of me going on about it!  Let’s get going with this week’s review on Akame ga Kill ! The plot of Akame ga Kill focuses on the young Tatsumi who goes on a journey with his two childhood friends to help his poverty-stricken village.  After reaching the Capital and becoming separated from his friends, Tatsumi runs into some bad luck and finds himself broke and jobless.  However, he quickly learns after being taken in by a noble family that the rich and privileged are more sinister than he thought.  He also discovers that his friends

O.O That's all.:Overlord

Greetings, earthlings!  The first day of November is here, which means it’s time for a new month of new reviews.  And today’s new review is on a new show that came out earlier this year.  Let me just say, you won’t believe what you see.   Believe me.   Just take a look at the picture.  I couldn’t even come up with a catchy title.  Anyways, let’s get started on this week’s review on the summer 2015 hit, Overlord . In 2126, a player on the popular Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game Yggdrasil cherishes his last few moments as the game’s server is being shut down.  The player, known as Momonga, quickly realizes that something is wrong when he still finds himself in the game once the server is shut down.  Not entirely sure of what is going on, he starts to dig for information about the world of Yggdrasil to hopefully find the answer to the bizarre situation.  However, with the help of the guild he runs within the game and his own remarkable, God-like abilities, he ce

Character of the Month of October: Shinichi Izumi

Image
Hello world!  October is coming to an end, which not only means Halloween is just around the corner, but it’s also time to reveal this month’s Character of the Month.  I know October was a short month-by no fault of my own-, but I did get to review some fantastic horror-animes.  That much said, this month’s character was a shoe-in; after reviewing the shows for this month, I knew this character would take the spot.  Who can I possibly be talking about?  I’m talking about the leading character from my first review of the month, Parasyte: The Maxim , Shinichi Izumi! Shinichi Izumi was an ordinary high school student until a strange man-eating creature called a parasite attacked him and devoured his right arm.  Trapped in a situation where he cannot tell anyone about the predicament he’s in, he and Migi-the parasite who attacked him-must learn to not only coexist with each other but also stay wary of other parasites who have taken up hosts in the humans they’ve eaten.  For Shinichi,

Getting to the Root of it…Wait, haven’t I done this one already?: Tokyo Ghoul √A

Image
Greetings, everyone!  After some major complications last Sunday, I’m back this week with a…well, it’s complicated.  Although I’ve gone through two rounds of reviews on this anime, its second season has yet to be reviewed.  Now at this point, you may be wondering what show I’m talking about.  Last year’s anime horror sensation Tokyo Ghoul got this blogger’s attention from its summer premier, and now I’m bringing its second season to be reviewed.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy my third crack at Tokyo Ghoul , or should I say it’s second season Tokyo Ghoul √ A . √ A picks up where season one left off.  Kaneki goes through a complete personality change after accepting his ghoulish side and fighting and devouring Yamori.  Meanwhile, the Anteiku gang is still on the hunt for Kaneki while the CCG continues its fight with Aogiri Tree.  But when the fight suddenly ends, Kaneki decides to join Aogiri.  From episode one and onward, √ A covers Kaneki’s time with Aogiri, the CCG’s moves after

One Serious Bug Problem: Parasyte: The Maxim

Image
Greetings, everybody!  October has begun-as of four days ago-, and that means Halloween is coming, which also means reviews on horror animes all month long!  Starting off this month will be one horror anime that I have been wanting to review for a long time now.  Released October of last year, this show caught my attention and I’ve stuck with it for the majority of the show’s duration.  Several months later I knew that I would review this show.  And the timing couldn’t be more appropriate for a review because the English dub was released just last night on Toonami.  What show can I possibly be talking about?  I’m talking about the creepy crawly, bloody and gory Parasyte: The Maxim ! Based on the late eighties manga series of the same name, Parasyte follows high school student Shinichi Izumi after he goes through some unusual events.  One night, an insect-like creature attacks Shinichi and burrows into his arm.  The following day, he discovers that his hand has been taken over by a

Character of the Month of September: Kirito and Asuna

Image
Hello, wonderful people of the universe!  September is coming to an end, which means it’s time to reveal the Character of the Month for September.  Or should I say Character s ?  That’s right!  This month it’s going to two characters, again (you may remember I did the same earlier in March)!  However, considering I only reviewed one show for this month, it’s probably no surprise who these two characters are.  So with that much said, let’s talk about this month’s picks, Kirito and Asuna from Sword Art Online . It’s been awhile since I reviewed Sword Art Online , so to recap, the show is about how players of the MMORPG Sword Art Online become trapped within the game and are forced to fight to survive and beat all the levels of the game to escape.  Kazuto Kirigaya, aka Kirito, is determined to fight.  During this journey through the world of Aincrad, he comes across another player named Asuna.  Both become skilled fighters and become powerful players in the game.  Later on, the two s

Is Lucy the next Akira?

Image
Greetings, people of Earth!  Welcome back for Part Two of Akira Month!  For this week, I’ll be talking about a Hollywood blockbuster that may be doing a little more than paying tribute to Akira .  Many of you may remember last summer the release of the film Lucy .  The movie came out on DVD earlier this year, and I watched it myself a few months back.  When the credits started rolling, the first thing I said was, “That was great!  Too bad it was already done in 1988 with Akira .”  Now there have been other films over the years like The Matrix trilogy and Chronicle that have been considered rip-offs of Akira .  Though I’m not saying that Lucy is a rip-off of Akira , I do think that Lucy’s plot was just a little too similar.  Bottom line, this post will be talking about some of the similarities between the two films, and then you, the reader, make the call on whether or not it’s a rip-off.  So, let’s get going! Before I Start… So before I begin, let’s talk a little bit about

Akira the Movie vs. Akira the Manga: Which is Better?

Image
Greetings, everyone!  Welcome to Part 1 of Akira Month!  To kick this two part, all about Akira, discussion post event off, I’ll be taking the manga that inspired the groundbreaking film, and the groundbreaking film that later inspired the world and seeing which one really makes fans explode-OK, that came out a little weird.  So now, without further delay, let’s get started on my discussion post battle of Akira  the Manga versus Akira the Movie! First Up: Akira the Movie So let’s begin with the Akira that most people are familiar with, the 1988 film. In a nutshell, Akira the film is about a teenage biker gang member named Tetsuo who suddenly develops psychic powers that eventually cause him to lose his mind.  This decent into  madness also sparks a rivalry between him and his best friend Kaneda, who has unwillingly become involved with a terrorist group trying to expose a secret government organization that studies individuals with psychic abilities much similar to

Gaming World Meets the Real World II: Sword Art Online

Image
Hello, world!  September is here, and so is a new review for today!  This week, I’ll be reviewing a show that I think I should have reviewed a long time ago.  This show has made its mark in America, earning it a spot on Toonami among other things, and I can’t wait to take it on.  So without any further delay, let’s get started on this week’s review on Sword Art Online ! Sword Art Online takes place in a futuristic Japan where gamers eagerly await the release of the new MMORPG Sword Art Online, also known as SAO.  Making the game even more attractive is the use of Nerve Gear, a gaming device that allows players to put themselves in the game’s world.  However, this gamer’s dream turns into a nightmare when the game’s creator traps all the players in the game, saying they must complete all one-hundred levels of the game to escape.  However, if players die in game, they die in real life as well.  And taking the Nerve Gear off will also cause equal results.  But unlike other players, Ka

Character of the Month of August: Satsuki Kiryuin

Image
Hello, peoples!  August will be coming to a close a little early this month; for Hanime on Anime anyways.  I’ve just started working full time and next week is going to be a very busy week and I will not be getting off on Sunday.  So in light of this, I’ll be doing my Character of the Month post a little early.  I also have an announcement concerning September.  But I’ll get to that bit later.  This month’s pick for Character of the Month may actually be one of my new favorite characters.  Granted, this may have affected my choice, but I still think it’s a worthwhile pick.  But who can I possibly be talking about?  I’m talking about the serious, ambition-driven Satsuki Kiryuin from Kill La Kill. Although Kill La Kill primarily focuses on Ryuko Matoi, Satsuki plays an important role in the series by acting as the main antagonist and the source of revenge for Ryuko.  Believing that she is the one who killed her father, Ryuko is out for revenge against Satsuki.  Throughout the ser

My Response to “20 Problems Only Anime Fans Will Understand” from orzzzz.com

Image
Greetings all!  You may have noticed by now that this week I’m not doing a review.  I wasn’t really sure what to review for this week, so I thought I’d do a discussion post instead.  Plus, I’ve wanted to do this for a while now. So to give a little background on this post, I found this article a few months back and thought it was really interesting.  Basically, it talks about stuff that goes on in anime that just irks anime fans and otakus.  Some of these I can relate to, some I can’t, but I’m still going to put my two cents in on all the questions.  So without further delay, sit back, relax, and enjoy my response to “20 Problems Only Anime Fans Will Understand!” (By the way, you may want to read the article first before reading my responses, just so you don’t get lost.  Here’s the link: http://orzzzz.com/20-problems-only-anime-fans-will-understand.html ) 20.
