Character of the Month of January: Victor Nikiforov

Greetings, everybody!  I know it’s a week early, but this week I’ll be unveiling January’s Character of the Month.  This month’s pick was an easy pick, but for some of you who saw Yuri on Ice , well, you may be surprised by who I picked…or not.  Anyways, let’s talk a little about this month’s first Character of the Month, Victor Nikiforov from Yuri on Ice ! Since I just reviewed this show last week-and in fact it was the only show that I reviewed this month- for once, I’m actually going to skip the synopsis and get right to the juicy details.  Again, for those of you who saw Yuri on Ice , you’re probably wondering “why pick Victor?”  Yuri probably would have been the stereotypical first choice.  And how!  A lot the plot focuses not only on Yuri’s journey to the Grand Prix Finals, but on the inner conflict that Yuri faces with himself.  We watch as Yuri evolves from a nervous wreck into a man full of confidence.  Sure, that’s great and all, but think about who got him to develop

Review on Ice: Yuri!!! on Ice

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  I’m back this week with the first ever review of 2017!  While I enjoyed doing last week’s discussion post, it’s nice to get back to the routine of doing a review.  This week’s review is on one of the most talked about shows of 2016.  And let me just say, the praise is more than confirmed with this one.  I don’t think I really need to say more.  So let’s get on with this week’s review of Yuri!!! on Ice ! This series focuses on Yuri Katsuki, a young talented figure skater.  After losing badly at a competition, Yuri contemplates whether to continue skating or not, returning home a year after his crushing defeat.  Then on a whim, he performs a routine performed by his figure skating idol Victor Nikiforov.   He gains some attention when a video of his rendition is uploaded online, particularly from Victor himself.  After watching the routine online, Victor decides to coach Yuri and help him win the Grand Prix of Figure Skating.  But Yuri will not on

Discussion Post: Is CGI Ruining Anime?

Howdy, howdy folks!  Hope everyone experiencing all this cold weather is staying warm.  And to help get cozy, I’m going to kick off 2017’s second post with a discussion that I’ve been dying to do for quite some time now, like since November.  But obviously, that didn’t happen.  The idea for this post actually came to me after watching one or two videos on the topic.  And what topic would that be exactly?  Well, if you haven’t checked out the title yet, it’s concerning a certain avenue in animation and anime itself.  And so, without further delay, sit back, relax, and enjoy my discussion on CGI and anime.  So to start off this post, I have to ask, “Is CGI ruining anime?”  Well, I’ve seen a few opinions on the use of CGI-or computer generated imagery- in animation in general, as well as in anime.  But in answering this question, I think it’s best to look at the history of animation, when CGI came into play, as well as the history of anime itself.  Sure, it sounds like a lot (and

The Winner for Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Year has been Chosen!

Ladies and gentlemen!  2017 is here, and Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Year has been chosen!  This year’s pick was a tough one; there were a lot of great characters to choose from.  But in the end, it came down to one winner and one honorable mention.  So without further adieu, Hanime on Anime’s Character of 2016 is… Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama from Mob Psycho 100 ! That’s right!  The young powerhouse of a psychic took home the title.  Protagonist for Mob Psycho 100 , Mob uses his awesome powers to exercise ghosts and demons under the instruction of his fake psychic mentor Reigen.  But season one also brings a number of other challenges for Mob, among them, a secret organization of psychics, and even his own brother!  Mob was one of the few nominees that experienced conflict and was genuinely powerful.  Even though Mob possesses an enormous amount of power, but has to balance the average life of a middle schooler at the same time.  But season one shows that while that was no
