Hanime on Anime

Finally!  This week I get to review what may be the most talked about anime of the summer!  That’s right, this week I’m reviewing Tokyo Ghoul !  I wanted to wait until I was a couple of episodes in before I did a review.  Well, I’ve already seen four episodes already.  So I’m going to go right ahead and start. Tokyo Ghoul follows Ken Kaneki, a young college student who is also part ghoul.  It all started with a date gone horribly wrong.  What started out as a pretty great time ended in disaster when Kaneki realizes that his date is a ghoul, a creature that eats humans.  After a brutal attack in a construction site, a couple of iron beams fall on both Kaneki and the ghoul.  This kills the ghoul, but severely injures Kaneki.  Then in an attempt to save his life, doctors try to save Kaneki by transferring the ghoul’s organs to him.  After this “life-saving” operation-if you could call it that-, Kaneki becomes a half-human, half-ghoul being.  From that point onward, much of the series c

Ever heard of the rap song “I’m on a Boat?”  Well, this anime takes it to the extreme.  For this week, I’m reviewing Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet , an anime about a boy, his giant fighting robot, a girl, and well, a boat.  So let’s cut to the chase and take a good hard look at the…well you get the idea. Gargantia is a post-apocalyptic anime that starts out in space-with no cheesy intro about space itself or the entire series [cough, cough. Space Dandy ].  Young soldier Ledo is in the midst of a battle against the Hideauze, the enemy of the Gallactic Alliance of Humankind.  After losing the fight, he and his robot-battle suit, Chamber, are sucked into a wormhole.  Ledo wakes up to find himself in some unknown place where he is spotted by, surprising to Ledo, another human- later known as Amy.  After an attempted hostage takeover, Ledo discovers he is a board a fleet of make-shift boats on an ocean covered-planet.  It is then revealed that this ocean-covered planet is Earth.  A

Alright all you gamers!  I’ve got an anime here that you’re sure to love.  This week I’m reviewing Log Horizon , an anime that shows what can happen when the gaming world comes to the real world.  I have to admit, this review was inspired by someone very near and dear to me, but I’ll get to that later on.  For right now, hook up your game controls and let’s take a look at Log Horizon . Log Horizon starts when a new expansion of the popular online game Elder Tale mysteriously transports players into the world of the game.  Fellow player Shiroe and his friends Naotsugu and Akatsuki brace their way through the game and battle the many adversaries they face behind the computer screen.  But soon their luck turns around when they form their own guild, with the help of other friends like Marielle and Henrietta, known as Log Horizon. Granted, I didn’t finish this series, but overall, Log Horizon gets four out of five stars from me!  It has a great and entertaining story, the characters

  Hello all!  Well, it’s finally here!  My very first anime discussion post.  This post will discuss “anti-hero” characters who, by my standards, do not entirely fit the role because their pasts cast them in a different light. This all started a few months ago when I went on a YouTube spree.  At random, I pulled up a video from WatchMojo that counted down its top ten anime anti-heroes.  I agreed with most of the results…all but the number one spot.  This character-who I will actually be talking about later-really didn’t quite fit as an anti-hero by my standards.  Now that we know what brought up this topic, let’s ask some questions.  Which leads to the first question “what is an anti-hero?” By definition, an anti-hero is a protagonist whose actions are not traditional to that of a protagonist.  In other words, they’re heroes who act like anything but heroes.  These characters are often dark and their actions are almost something that would make them villains.  A perfect example
