Character of the Month of November: Yumeko Jabami

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   I’m back from my Thanksgiving vacation with turkey and a cold, but am ready to wrap up Novembflix with Character of the Month.   This time around, my choice was unique in that the show she’s from was good, but not one that I gushed over.   It seemed foolish of me not to consider her though, especially given how much praise I gave her when I first reviewed the show she was in.   Well, enough beating around the bush and let’s talk about this month’s Character of the Month of November: Yumeko Jabami from Kakegurui! At Hyakkaou Private Academy, gambling is the name of the game.   However, the students take things to a whole new level.   Thanks to the current student council, a hierarchy is set in place that can make, break, or even predict how your life will be if you don’t know how to play the game (or just be lucky).   In some cases, students are pretty much stripped of their basic human rights and treated as servants, or “house pets” as they’re re

B-yond Expectations: B the Beginning

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   Sunday is here, and that means it’s time for part three of Novembflix!   In this final review of the month, I’ll be talking about a show that, in all honesty, was the best so far this month.   I kid you not, I really liked this show!   Granted, it wasn’t anything that spectacular, but it was a fun show.   Well, I can’t stand it any longer, so let’s get into this week’s review on B the Beginning ! Set in the fictional country of Cremona, a series of gruesome murders are being committed by a mysterious serial killer known only as Killer B.   Investigating these murders are the Royal Investigation Service and later legendary genius detective Keith Flick.   However, this case gets more complicated as more bizarre cases pop up that lead to a mysterious criminal organization.   What’s more, they have no idea that the murders are being perpetrated by a mysterious boy whose origins from the pilot episode are unknown.   It’s definitely a dark and danger

Luck Be One Crazy Lady: Kakegurui

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   Welcome to Week 2 of Novembflix with a new review on a show that honestly, has been one of the most unsettling I’ve seen in a long time.   And it’s not even horror!   I kid you not, this show is bonkers. It goes to places you wouldn’t think a show like this would go to and makes you wonder, “what’s wrong with these people?”   That being said, let’s start this week’s review on Kakegurui ! Yumeko Jabami is a mysterious new transfer student to Hyakkaou Private Academy.   This at first doesn’t sound all that bad, but this school is far crueler than you could imagine; with the students coming mostly from wealthy families, the entire student body has set up its own gambling ring.   This was made even worse when the current student council president came in and set up a discriminatory system in which students who owe massive debts basically become servants – or “house pets”-to their debtors.   However, Yumeko isn’t fazed by this harsh environment, and i

Godzilla’ Anime Debut: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   With the end of the Halloween festivities and November in full swing, we can kick off Hanime on Anime’s second annual Novembflix.   And starting off this week’s reviews on Netflix exclusive anime is a film that I’m honestly not sure what to think.   Though meant to be the first part of a film trilogy, after watching this, I’m not sure if I’d pick up the next two parts.   But I’ll get into that when I get to it.   For now, let’s talk about this week’s first Novembflix pick for reviewing, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. Set in a futuristic setting with the opening set on a spaceship, the film starts off with something a hostage situation in which the film’s main character, Captain Haruo Sasaki, attempts to hold the ship hostage just as it’s about to release a group of willing participants in a recolonization project.   As he’s arrested, the project fails miserably.   He then goes into more detail via narration about the film’s current setting and

Why Do I Like Dark Stuff in Anime?

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen of the Internet!   Welcome to this week’s Talkative Thursday after postponing it many, many, many times as I’ll be wrapping up October with something that may or may not be personal.   Well, if nothing else, you might get an understanding of my personal preferences when it comes to anime and what I tend to look for in what I do get around to watching.   Getting straight to the point here, why do I like dark stuff in anime? Given that Halloween was yesterday, it seems like an appropriate question to ask.   But looking back at not only the shows and movies that I’ve reviewed on Hanime on Anime, but also those that I’ve personally watched.   Looking back, there seems to be a pattern.   Most of what I watched in my anime repertoire and have thoroughly enjoyed have some sort of dark theme or element to them.   I did an entire month on Evangelion, a show known for exploring the troubled psyche of its main characters and not shying away from a bleak reali
