Ain’t that Dandy? Space Dandy

Image
Space Dandy! He’s a dandy guy in space. It’s the first few words we hear from this fairly new series.  Though a bit redundant, that’s basically what this show is all about.  So, I’ll skip the fancy introduction and get to the review. So aside from what the show’s introduction says, Space Dandy is an episodic comedy that was released in January of this year.  It follows Space Dandy as he hunts for rare aliens.  Accompanying him are Meow, a cat-like alien known as a Betelgeusian, and QT, a robot.  Their adventures range from traveling to rare alien worlds inhabited by bazaar alien creatures to traveling to the nearest BooBies, which is the intergalactic equivalent to Hooters.  I know that that is pretty brief, but that is Space Dandy in a nutshell.  As I said earlier, the show is episodic-meaning each episode is its own story- and the plot is very vague anyway. Speaking of that, having seen a good bit of this series already, I give Space Dandy three and a half out five stars

Fee, Fie, Foe, Fom! The Titans are Coming! (Attack on Titan)

I was actually saving this review for a rainy day.  But due to this anime’s popularity not just in the U.S. but Japan as well- and that it is now on Toonami-, I’ve decided to give my two cents about it. Shingeki no Kyojin, or more commonly known as Attack on Titan , is the anime sensation that has swept the nation, at least for anime watchers and otakus.  The story of Attack on Titan follows Eren Jaeger, a boy who lives in a world where humanity lives in fear behind a walled city which protects it from titans -giant humanoid creatures who eat humans.  On one fateful day, the wall fails and titans are let lose in the city.  After witnessing his own mother being eaten by a titan, Eren vows to kill all the titans.  The anime also follows Eren and his friends, Mikasa and Armin, as they join the Survey Corps to combat the titans. In my overall opinion, I give Attack on Titan four out of five stars.  Now, I will admit, I haven’t finished it- in fact, I’m halfway through it.  But based

Miyazaki’s Farewell: The Wind Rises

Image
This is a review that has been long overdue.  I saw this back in March because-hello- it’s a Miyazaki film, and Miyazaki’s last film I might add.  I’ll get to that in a minute, but first, I’ll give a synopsis of the film. The Wind Rises is Studio Ghibli’s latest film that tells the story of Japanese engineer Jiro Horikoshi and his life, up until his creation of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero- one of the most well-known fighter planes in World War II.  As a young boy, Jiro has always dreamed of making planes.  He gets much of his inspiration and motivation from Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Caproni, whom he sees in his dreams throughout his life.  Much of the film by this point shows Jiro’s ventures in college and in the airplane manufacturing company he works for shortly after.  Eventually, he climbs the up the ranks and is put in charge of creating a fighter plane.  This fails, miserably.  After this, he decides to go to a resort for the summer to help clear his thoughts and get

Welcome to Hanime on Anime!

Greetings all and welcome to Hanime on Anime, the blog for otakus by a fellow otaku herself!  To give you all a sum of what to expect from this sight, Hanime on Anime is a blog that does weekly posts on every Sunday on anime and anime related topics.  The posts, for now, will consist of anime reviews, but I hope to do other things like discussions on anime themes and countdowns of my bests in anime. Now, if you’re reading this, you’ve probably read the words anime a couple times already- eight times to be exact- and probably have no idea what it is.  If that’s the case then, let’s ask the question “what is anime?”  What is anime you say?  Well, fortunately for you, there is an anime guru here to answer that question. Anime, in a nutshell, is Japanese cartoons.  That is, they were originally created in Japan, released in Japanese, and possibly released in English later on, if they were popular enough.  Now like I said, this is a simple definition, but it’s also an inaccurate defi
