The Winner for Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Year has been Chosen!

Ladies and gentlemen!  2017 is here, and Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Year has been chosen!  This year’s pick was a tough one; there were a lot of great characters to choose from.  But in the end, it came down to one winner and one honorable mention.  So without further adieu, Hanime on Anime’s Character of 2016 is… Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama from Mob Psycho 100!

That’s right!  The young powerhouse of a psychic took home the title.  Protagonist for Mob Psycho 100, Mob uses his awesome powers to exercise ghosts and demons under the instruction of his fake psychic mentor Reigen.  But season one also brings a number of other challenges for Mob, among them, a secret organization of psychics, and even his own brother!  Mob was one of the few nominees that experienced conflict and was genuinely powerful.  Even though Mob possesses an enormous amount of power, but has to balance the average life of a middle schooler at the same time.  But season one shows that while that was no easy feat, he did pretty well for himself.  So let’s bust just like you, Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama, because you’re Hanime on Anime’s Character of 2016!

Coming in at a close second was a cousin to the Mob Psycho 100 family, but maybe a bit more powerful.  My honorable mention for Character of 2016 went to…Saitama from One Punch Man!

Yes, the one-hit wonder himself!

Well, that wraps up the first post of 2017.  And before I go, I want to say this:

2016 will probably go down as the worst year ever.  The world suffered a great number of tragedies.  Not only did we lose a handful of treasured celebrities, but we endured one of the worst shootings in history, caused a rift between law enforcement and civilians, and very soon we will have an orange howler monkey running America in little over a month.  I myself have also suffered some personal tragedies of my own. Among them, I lost my aunt and grandmother months apart.  I’ve met the end of the year with stress and anxiety.  But, and to quote from Lelouch Lamperouge in season two of Code Geass, “what I want is tomorrow!”  And for 2017, I want many, many, many happy tomorrows.  To everyone reading this, have a happy New Year, and many happy tomorrows!
