Character of the Month of April: Shoya Ishida and Shoko Nishimiya

Image
Well, ladies and gentlemen, I think you saw this one coming.   I’m back this beautiful Sunday with this month’s Character- or Characters of the Month!   And yeah, if you read the title, I think it’s pretty obvious who was going to take it.   Cause let’s face it The End of Evangelion’s Shinji wasn’t going to take it anytime soon, especially not after the hospital scene.   But still, all kidding aside, I think this month’s picks really are worthy of the title, not just in their actions, but what they represent.   That being said, let’s talk about this month’s Characters of the Month of April, Shoya Ishida and Shoko Nishimiya from A Silent Voice . To keep things brief and less long-winded, A Silent Voice follows Shoya Ishida and Shoko Nishimiya as the two form a close friendship with each other despite the fact that the two shared a rough past.   With Nishimiya being deaf, this made her a target for bullying by Ishida as a child.   But when his b...

My Top 10 Favorite Non-Anime Movies

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   It’s Thursday once again, and that means it’s time to wrap up the last of my Autism Awareness Month event with my final non-anime countdown!   And for this week, I’ll be talking about my favorite non-anime movies.   Like I said last week, I don’t watch anime all the time and in fact enjoy some other films and shows.   And although I gave Robin Baker-Cotter credit for the idea, doing a list of my favorite non-anime movies was kind of my idea to begin with (her list pertained to non-anime TV shows).   So let’s not beat around the bush anymore and talk about my top ten favorite non-anime movies. #10: The Rocketeer/Bedknobs and Broomsticks Starting off the list is two totally different live-action Disney movies with some pretty similar themes.   From late middle school till I graduated high school, I had a fascination with the World War II era.   It wasn’t the war itself that was the interest, but the time...

My Top 10 Favorite Non-Anime TV Shows

Greetings ladies and gents!   Thursday is here, and that means it’s time for the first of my countdowns in celebration of Autism Awareness Month.   As I said before, this is meant to be countdown where I try to be more personal by talking about some non-anime stuff that I enjoy.   After all, I don’t watch anime all the time.   And what better way to show some of that by talking about non-amime shows and movies?   Granted, I can’t really give all the credit to myself for the idea.   No, that actually goes to Robin Barry-Cotter from the YouTube channel Anime America.   Some time ago, Robin did a special countdown of her favorite non-anime TV shows.   I loved the idea and saw it as a fun way to talk about stuff other than anime while being a little more personal.   For those who know me, it may not come as a surprise I’m a bit of an introvert and a couch potato.   So yeah, I watch TV a lot…well, ok, maybe not that much.   Still, I do...

A Really Good Movie!: A Silent Voice

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   Turns out I had some time on my hands after all cause I’ve got a review for you this week.   But this review is pretty special.   The film I’ll be reviewing was one of the most talked about anime films of 2017.   Plus given that it’s Autism Awareness Month and this film has disabilities as a theme, it seemed pretty appropriate to talk about.   Granted, autism is not the focus of the film, but it talks about having a disability.   Anyways, let’s get into this week’s review on A Silent Voice . The film opens with our main character Shoya Ishida in what I could describe as a very unusual opening scene.   However, before we get to the inevitable of what’s about to happen, we get a flashback of Ishida’s childhood.   As a boy, he was very rambunctious and outgoing.   However, things changed for him in the sixth grade when a new student named Shoko Nishimiya joined his class.   However, the class is shoc...
