Why…?: #ChangetheChannel Scandal

Image
Ok…so, remember what I said Sunday about this being a positive Autism Awareness-themed Talkative Thursday?   Yeah, I lied.   So let’s talk about today’s post a little bit so you can get a little bit of the context here.   If you read my announcement post last week, each Thursday would be something a little more personal than just the usual talking about autism and Asperger’s shtick that I do every year by doing countdowns of my favorite non-anime shows and films.   I also decided to include my favorite YouTube channels as a spur of the moment.   I say this because it was originally intended to be posted in March.   This countdown was meant to be a late response to a previous video posted by Anime America trying to promote positive channels on YouTube.   Basically, after the Aokigahara fiasco instigated by the infamous Paul brothers, many YouTubers made a call to action to promote positive and lesser known channels to make YouTube, well, a more po...

I Can (Not) Unsee This: The End of Evangelion

Image
OK, ladies and gentlemen, if you can tell by the title, you can conclude two things:   one, today’s review is related to Evangelion , and two, it was not pleasant.   And coming from a newly converted Evangelion fan, that’s saying something cause I’ve have been dreading as well as anticipating reviewing this movie.   Now what do I mean by unpleasant?   Well, let’s just say this was the first time ever in all of the time I’ve been otaku that I’ve openly laughed and said “that was stupid.”   And what do I mean by this?   Keeping reading this review and you’ll see why.   So hold on and let’s get started on this week’s review on The End of Evangelion . To give you guys fair warning, the film is split into three parts.   And if you didn’t see the original series up to episode 24, you might be a little lost to some of the details.   Speaking of, the movie opens where episode 24 left off with Shinji mourning Kaworu’s death.   He also make...

Why Spirited Away Didn’t Spirit Me Away

Image
Well, fabulous ladies and gents, Talkative Thursday was yesterday and there was no post...oops.  Yeah, I got caught up with work and completely forgot to post this.  But it's only Friday, and I'm still  kicking off Part 1 of my Autism Awareness event.   As I mentioned Monday, today is going to be a discussion post with ties to autism and Autism Awareness.   And I know what you’re thinking just by reading the title, what does Spirited Away have to do with autism?   Well, for those inquiring minds, let’s take a look-see. Whether you’re otaku or just a casual anime watcher, Spirited Away is one of the most talked about and groundbreaking anime films of all time.   It’s regarded as an animation masterpiece and to this day is the first and only anime film to win an Academy Award.   So obviously, given the hype that people have for this film, I knew that I had to watch it sometime before I died, putting it on my line up for Miyazaki May last year....

Awareness or Acceptance?: Autism Awareness Month Announcement

Image
Well, April is here, ladies and gentlemen.   And that means it’s time for my annual Autism Awareness Month Event!   And this year was probably the hardest one yet.   But I’ll get to that in a minute. First, I wanted to talk a little bit about today, given that it’s actually Autism Awareness Day. Autism Awareness Day is when we celebrate autism awareness.   I’ve talked about autism and my own experiences with Asperger’s Syndrome before, so I’m not going to repeat what’s already been said about autism and its effects.   But while I was planning this year’s event, I came across an alternative movement called Autism Acceptance.   The premise is simple, rather than making the public aware of autism and autistic people, the group encourages people to accept autistic people.   The idea here is that the public may already be aware of what autism is, but now it is time for the public to accept it and the people who have it.   A vast majority of a...

Finding God in Hellsing and Drifters

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen and Happy Easter/April Fool’s Day!   For today’s post, I wanted to start off April on an interesting note that wasn’t related to Autism Awareness (that won’t be until tomorrow).   Oddly enough, this was actually a post I wanted to do for Easter this year.   Granted, it happened to fall on the first day of April, but still, I think it’s worth doing anyways.   So, without further adieu, let’s dive right in. As many of you know, Easter is an important time of the year for Christians-and if you’re Catholic like I am, it’s an especially important time of the year- as it is the time to celebrate the Passion of Jesus.   For those who don’t know what this is, it’s basically the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.   During Holy Week, Christians honor the Passion of Christ and celebrate His resurrection on Easter.   So with all this talk about Easter and Christians, what does this all have to do with anime? Well, funny you ...

Character of the Month of March: the Matsuno Brothers

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   It’s the end of the month, and that means it’s time for Character of the Month!   And honestly, I felt a little torn with this one...ok, maybe I wasn’t torn, I just felt like there were other characters I could have picked.   What do I mean?   Well, let’s find out by talking about this month’s Character of the Month of March, the Matsuno brothers from Mr. Osomatsu ! There really isn’t much to talk about with this show, but it wouldn’t hurt to give a quick synopsis given my review on Mr. Osomatsu was two weeks ago.   The series follows the Matsuno brothers- Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Todomatsu- and there crazy antics...and that’s about all you need to know.   Like I said, quick synopsis. I’m pretty sure that some of you might have thought that either Hiro or Zero Two from DARLING in the FRANXX would have won.   But like I said in my review last week, the show felt really tedi...
