Character of the Month: Rin Okumura

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen! Fall is finally in the air, Halloween is almost here, and it’s time once again to reveal this month’s Character of the Month of October!   This month I admittedly was not on top of things with this blog as I had been busy with work and some personal issues, so my choices for Character of the Month have been limited.   Still, this month’s pick was definitely a good pick.   I can’t wait to talk about this character so let’s get started and talk a little bit about this month’s Character of the Month of October, Rin Okumura from Blue Exorcist . Because I just recently reviewed Blue Exorcist , I’ll spare you all a synopsis since I assume you guys read the review or already saw the show.   There really isn’t a whole lot to Rin as a character.   He’s about average and is about as stereotypical a protagonist you can get.   But unlike many stereotypical protagonists, he’s not as overwhelming stubborn or hotheaded.   It’s ...

Have a Blue Halloween: Blue Exorcist

Greetings, ladies and gents!   Welcome to another review on another Sunday in October.   In continuing with my annual supernatural/horror theme of the month, I move on in my string of reviews with a well known series that’s barely ten years old but surprisingly good.   It’s actually been on my watchlist for some time and after giving it a shot, I now get to talk about it.   I can’t wait to get started so let’s hit the ground running with this week’s review on Blue Exorcist ! The overlying plot of the series revolves around fraternal twins Rin and Yukio Okumura who live seemingly normal lives with their father and priest (and later revealed to be an exorcist) Shiro Fujimoto.   However, things drastically changed when it is revealed that not only are he and Yukio are the sons of Satan, but that Rin has also inherited much of his father’s demonic powers.   These powers are further enhanced after he uses a sword called the Kurikara to fight off an attack by...

This Anime’s on a Boat…with Zombies!: Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   Welcome to October and the first of some supernatural and horror-filled reviews.   I know I meant to start off the month right last week, but due to some certain circumstances, that obviously didn’t happen.   Still, I hope to get things going with a fresh new review on a pretty new anime film and more or less of a continuation on one of my favorite shows of all time.   I can’t wait to get into this review, so let’s get started on this week’s review on Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic ! Seemingly picking up where Book of Murder left off (yes, I’m well aware that I haven’t reviewed this yet), Ciel and Sebastian board on a cruise ship called the Campania, which is headed to New York City.   They’re also met by some of the other cannon characters like Elizabeth and her family, the Undertaker, as well as the grim reaper Ronald Knox.   However, this cruise is more than a vacation.   Ciel and Sebastian are on the liner...

My Thoughts on High Guardian Spice and the Crunchyroll Controversy

Image
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we’re going to talk about this today.   This was a bit of news that really had otakus and the anime community in an uproar for the past couple of weeks.   It’s caused such a stir that many people, including some of the most prominent and recognizable anime YouTubers, have voiced their own opinions on the issue.   In a nutshell, this took the anime community by storm.   It’s clear that it’s had a significant impact and will continue to have one in the near future.   Though I’m under the assumption that everyone has calmed down a bit from it, I thought I’d share my own thoughts on the matter while it’s still somewhat fresh in our minds.   And yes, I probably know better than to contribute to this kind of online cancer, but given that it’s gotten such massive attention- especially for all the wrong reasons-, I feel like it’s something almost unavoidable.   That being said, let’s talk about this. For those of you who don’t ...

Character of the Month: Shinji Ikari

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   Sunday is here and I know what you’re probably thinking, why am I doing Character of the Month a full week early?   Well, let’s just say I overlooked the fact that there’s more than four Sundays in the month of September.   Still, this seemed to work in my favor because that gives me a chance to talk about something that I probably know better than to talk about, but I’ll get to that next week.   For now, let’s talk about This is (Not) an Evangelion Event’s Character of the Month, Shinji Ikari! To give a backstory to Shinji is almost redundant.   We all know it.   This famous mentally scarred fifteen year old gets called in by his estranged father to find that he is being commissioned to pilot a giant robot called an Evangelion Unit in order to fight a series of giant extraterrestrial beings known as Angels.   In both the original series and the Rebuild films, we watch as this decision to take on such a he...

Evangelion the Series vs. Evangelion Rebuild: Which is Better?

Image
Greetings, ladies and gents!   Welcome to the last of the Talkative Thursdays for This is (Not) an Evangelion Event !   Throughout September, I’ve reviewed all the current films from Evangelion Rebuild and looked at all of the good and bad elements from them.   Finally, I get to end the discussion in a VS. post.   All of the posts from this month have all led up to this, and now it’s time to take a look at both the original series and Rebuild to see which one was the better Evangelion !   So sit back, relax, and let’s get this match started off with the original series! First Up: Neon Genesis Evangelion (the series) Starting in 1995 and with only one season under it’s belt, Neon Genesis Evangelion - or just Evangelion for short- was a series that followed the adventures of fifteen year-old Shinji Ikari as he pilots a giant mech known as an Evangelion (or “Eva”) Unit.   The series itself is notoriously known amongst otakus for its dark tone thro...

I Will (Not) Re-Use this Pun: Evangelion 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!   Welcome back to part three of This is (Not) an Evangelion Event and my final review of the month!   So far I’ve talked about two of the currently three movies in the series and gave a couple of spoilers in between in examining the good and bad things from the films.   Now we get to press on and talk about the last current film in the series!   Let’s not wait any longer and get started talking about the third film in the Evangelion Rebuild series, Evangelion 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo ! If you read my Talkative Thursday post earlier this week, you’ll know that I felt the first thirty minutes of this film was a wreck and hard to follow.   Well, despite that, I’ll do what I can to explain what happens.   Fourteen years after the Third Impact, a new organization called WILLE, lead by Misato, tries to save what’s left of humanity and destroy the Evas and Nerv.   Somehow, they’ve managed to recover Shinji   who’s b...
