Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month of December: Sebastian Michaelis

Image
Season’s greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  Christmas is just around the corner, so I think that it’s a good time to end this month right around this time.  And of course, what better way to end the month, as well as the year, with my pick for Character of the Month!  This month was a bit simple because I did only one review for December.  Though this may seem unfair, I have to say that it made my pick an absolute must.  Anyways, I’ll stop rambling and get to talking about this month’s Character of the Month: Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler . So to start, Black Butler follows the young English earl Ciel Phantomhive and his quest to seek revenge against the deaths of his parents after making a deal with a demon later named Sebastian.  Throughout much of the series, we see Sebastian complete various demands made out by Ciel, all ranging from simple to near impossible.  But being a demon, Sebastian can do just about anything-enough said. ...

Anime and Christianity

Image
Greetings all!  You may notice that this week’s post is not a review.  In light of the impending holiday season, I decided to do a special discussion post.  It’s a bit controversial, but this was a post I’ve wanted to do for some time now.  So bare with me, and I do apologize in advance for any offense that I make. So to start this post, we all know it’s the holiday season.  For many people, the biggest holiday of the season is Christmas.  And it also may not come as a surprise that this is a dominantly Christian holiday.  With this Christian aspect of Christmas in mind, I begin my post.  With the anime shows I have seen over the years, not many of them focus on religion-particularly Christianity.  In the few cases that it is involved, whether directly or indirectly, there are some things presented in them that are questionable.   And this is where I begin my discussion.  Here I will discuss a few ways that Christianity is...

One Hell of an Anime: Black Butler

Image
Hello all!  I know that you guys missed me last week because I didn’t have a new review up, but I’m glad that I got some important things said and done with last week’s announcement post.  Plus, you got to see me in person (or at least on your computer screen).  But I’m back with a new review this week that you’re sure to love.  Why?  Cause this review is on the show about a boy and his butler.  That’s right! This week’s review is on the hit sensation Black Butler .  So without any further delay, let’s get on with this review! Black Butler , in general, follows the young Earl Ciel Phantomhive.  After a religious cult kills his parents and tortures him, Ciel makes a deal with a demon to save him and help him seek his revenge in exchange for his soul.  This demon later becomes his butler, Sebastian Michaelis.  Now that’s season one-if you didn’t know, there are three seasons so far.   In season two, Ciel has already had his ...

Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month of November: Vash the Stampede

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  This week I will be unveiling November’s Character of the Month.  And like many characters that have come to pass, this one was no contest.  Now, I know that normally I do Character of the Month right around the end of the month, but you may notice that it’s not even the end of the month-at least not until next week.  I will explain this at the end of the post.  But in the meantime, let’s talk about this month’s Character of the Month: Vash the Stampede from Trigun . Trigun is an early 2000’s anime that follows Vash the Stampede, a wandering, blonde, spiky-haired man who is sought out by bounty-hunters far and wide in order to obtain the $$60,000,000,000.00 bounty on his head.  That, in general is the basic plot of Trigun , and just one aspect to the character’s story.  However, throughout the show, we get glimpses of Vash’s backstory.  And by the end we find the truth.  Vash’s life started out as bein...

Naraku vs. The Major: Who had the Most Nefarious Plot?

Image
Greetings, fellow citizens of the Earth!  You may have noticed that this week that I’m not doing a review.  For this week I decided to do a discussion post.  And let me tell you, I’ve wanted to do this one for a while now.  But now seems like a good time to do this.  As many of you are aware, Toonami recently aired Hellsing Ultimate for its first ever television debut.  Then I found out recently that Toonami was bringing back Inuyasha for the television premier of Inuyasha: The Final Act.  So with that much said, let’s get to the point here.  For this post, I took two of my favorite anime villains- the Major from Hellsing Ultimate and Naraku from Inuyasha as well as Inuyash: The Final Act - and asked the question, “who had the most nefarious, most evil, most diabolical plan?” Now before I begin, I think I should explain what’s going to be discussed.    Here I will take a look at the two villains individually and their gran...

The Anime That Never Ends Just Came to an End: Bleach

Image
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!  I’m back again this week with a new review!  This week, I will be looking at one of the longest running animes of all time.  I’ve joked and a called it “The Anime that Never Ends”- a title that can be also used for other long-running shows like One Piece and Pokémon -, but as the title suggests, this show just recently came to an end.  But I’ll get more to that later.  For now, let’s get started on this week’s review on the famous long-running anime Bleach . Despite the title’s unusual name, Bleach has nothing to do with actual bleach.  The show follows fifteen year-old Ichigo Kurosaki, who since childhood has been able to see the souls of the dead.  Ichigo is able to live with these powers, until one fateful day.  In his hometown of Karakura Town, a series of strange events occur where invisible entities have been plaguing the town.  All of these events come to a head when Ichigo meets a mysterious and ...

Beware the Typhoon!: Trigun

Image
Greetings, ladies and gents!  It’s time for another review from yours truly!  This week, I’m taking a look at an old classic in anime.  I discovered this anime over the summer at MechaCon, and just recently completed the series.  With that much said, let’s take a trip back to the early 2000’s.  The setting is a desert planet rampant with criminals and bounty hunters.   The only solution, and also the biggest problem, is a spiky-haired blonde man with a $$60,000,000,000.00 bounty on his head.  That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, this week’s review is on sci-fi western anime Trigun !  So enough with the flashback, let’s get to the review! So as I said, Trigun takes place in the distant future on a desert planet where people live in an old western setting.  More often times than none, these people are attack by ruthless criminals.  Among the worst of these criminals is Vash the Stampede-also known as the “Humanoid Typhoon.”  ...

Attention to all of my readers:  the official Hanime on Anime Pinterest page is now open!  If you haven't been catching up on my blogs recently, I have mentioned that the Pinterest page should be up and running between mid-October and Thanksgiving.  Well it just so happens that all of the setting up has been completed and the site is now ready for public viewing.  The page includes boards of all the animes I've reviewed since the start of the blog (not including Character of the Month or Discussion posts).  The boards themselves contain screenshots, fanart, videos, and gifs of the anime the board is about.  And last but not least, I have the link posted below.  So what are you waiting for?  Go check it out! Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month of October: Alucard

Image
Well, ladies and gentlemen, October is coming to a close.  And that means one of two things.  One: Halloween is coming up; and two: it’s time for Hanime on Anime’s Character of the Month!  This month’s character was a given.  Then again, he is from Hellsing , which has been the talk of the blog lately.  So yes, if you can’t tell who it is by now, this month’s Character of the Month is the one and only Alucard-as mentioned in my Hellsing Ultimate review. Alucard takes on two different roles in both the anime and the OVA.  In the anime, Alucard takes on a very light role as being the top field agent of the Hellsing Organization, servant to Integra Hellsing, and the vampire responsible for turning former police officer Seras Victoria into a vampire.  In other words, Alucard is not the main character of the anime.  However, Alucard becomes more involved-and in fact is at the forefront-in the OVA.  Still holding the title of top field agent fo...

Old Hellsing vs. New Hellsing: Which One is Better?

Image
Greetings ladies and germs!  It’s that time again, not just for a post, but for a long overdue discussion post.  For this week, this post will be taking two shows and seeing which one is the Ultimate.  Noting the pun I just made, in honor of the release of the last two episodes of Hellsing Ultimate , this week I will be taking a look at Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate and seeing which one is better. First Up: Hellsing Ultimate So first in this duel is Hellsing Ultimate .  Now seeing that I recently reviewed this OVA series, I’ve done a simple copy and paste from the post: “Hellsing Ultimate takes place in modern day England.  The Hellsing Organization, a secret program run by the Queen of England to kill monsters-particularly vampires-, has been dealing with a series of bizarre vampire attacks.  In one of these attacks, Hellsing’s top agent Alucard-who happens to be a vampire and is also one of the most bad-ass characters in anime-kills a poli...
