One-Hit Wonder: One Punch Man

Hello, hello, hello!  It’s a new year and a new month, and that means it’s time for a brand new review!  To kick off the first Sunday of the new year, I’ll be reviewing one of the hottest shows of the fall 2015 season.  Some people may call it a knock-out-no pun intended-, but I wanted to get a crack at it first before I could say the same.  So enough beating around the bush and let’s get on with this week’s and 2016’s first review on One Punch Man.
In the fictional city of City Z, Saitama is a super hero able of defeating villains and giant monsters with just one punch.  But because of his overwhelming strength, Saitama finds himself bored and waiting for a stronger opponent to come along.  However, his power does draw him some attention, both good and bad.  And after gaining an ally in the teenage cyborg Genos, Saitama finds himself in more trouble than he thought.  Still, it shouldn’t be that hard to handle for the most powerful man in the world.
I’ll admit, I haven’t delved too deep into this show-but considering it’s only twelve episodes, it shouldn’t be that hard to catch up on.  Still, I certainly got a lot out of what I saw.  So right off the bat, I give One Punch Man three and a half out of a five star rating.  I know this is a low rating compared to some of my other reviews, but I have my reasons.  Anyways, what I did like from the show was definitely the animation.  If you were to combine the animation styles of Redline and anything from the studio Trigger- which created shows like Kill la Kill and Guren Lagann-you would get this show.  The show is pretty well animated throughout, but get to the fight scenes and you see a completely different animation style all together.  It’s unique and pretty entertaining to watch and certainly a perk to the show. Saitama could’ve been drawn a little better, but all the same the animation gets an A+.
What wasn’t so great was the story-my only downside.  It’s not that it has a weak plot or anything, I just feel like it’s missing something.  You could say I’m like Saitama himself, having expected a lot from this show and am still waiting for something phenomenal to happen.  Still, it’s pretty early in the show, and from where I left off, I can say that things are looking really good.  It’s certainly a worthwhile show to watch and I certainly intend to go further with it in the future.
So was One Punch Man a knock-out hit for this blogger? Not necessarily.  But I’m definitely looking forward for what’s to come! If you’re interested in watching One-Punch Man, I know for a fact that you can watch episodes online, especially on Hulu.  A series of OVAs were also released this past December.  Well, that’s all for this week.  Be sure to stay tuned for next Sunday because I’ll be doing another new review for the new year!
